Annandale’s history dates back to the early 1820’s when Major George Johnston first set foot in the area around Stanmore and Annandale. Initially known as Johnston’s bush after his surname, the suburb’s name was later changed to Annandale after his hometown in England. Although it has undergone many changes, Annandale still has streets and places named after George Johnstone and many beautiful architecturally-styled buildings, including the stunning and prominent building called “The Abbey”, built by John Young, which remain a proud heritage of Annandale today.
Annandale has a total population of about 8,600 the median of which is 36 years. About 37% of the residents are in the 20 to 39 age group and 29% are in the 40 to 59 age group.
