Located about 3 kilometers east of Sydney central business district, Paddington is today largely a white working class suburb which has its beginnings tracing back to an aboriginal settlement mainly of the Cadigal tribe. It was a land very much associated with the stories and rituals of the Cadigal aborigines. Paddington is known for its heritage conservation where many early Victorian residential homes exist intact today. In line with its conversation efforts, the suburb re-zoned four hundred acres of terrace housing for conservation in 1968.
Paddington’s population is about 12,911 of which 59.9% were born in Australia according to the 2016 ABS Census data. The cultural heritage of the people are mainly from England, New Zealand, United States of America, South Africa and France. The median age in Paddington is 36 years. The median weekly income is $1,422 for individuals and $3,719 for families. The main occupation of Paddington’s residents are professionals (45.8%) and managers (20.8%). The rest are clerks, salespersons, service workers and tradespersons.
Paddington has a well-developed bus network. Many bus services serve residents from the suburb to Circular Quay, Bondi Junction and surrounding suburbs. The nearest railway station is the Edgecliff Train Station. Besides public transport, many residents commute by cars to work.

Eateries in Five Ways are Mr T Restaurant, Cafe Fiveways, Sonder Cafe, Juniper Cafe & Bar and the Royal Hotel.
In the Back Streets, which are leafy back streets of roads such as Albion, Boundary, Cascade, Elizabeth, Flinders and Gordon streets, numerous hotels, galleries, interior design shops, antique dealers and restaurants have thrived the vicinity.
The occupied accommodation comprises 55% of semi-detached houses, 27% of flats, units or apartments, and 6% of detached houses.
